The last time, in fact, I felt so embraced was when David Helfgott jumped into my arms and kissed me and said a furious whisper ‘Socialist Prime Minister. Socialist Prime Minister. Socialist Prime Minister.’ And I said, ‘It’s a hard ask, but I’ll do what I can.’”
